Sora's Quest (Cat's Eye, #1)

Sora Fallcrest always dreamed of adventure, but as a member of the nobility, she learned the ways of a Lady instead. Now seventeen, she is expected to choose a husband and marry. She plots to run away, but just as she is stepping out the door, she runs into a mysterious man–and is kidnapped.

Abducted from her manor, Sora is plunged into a world of magical races, arcane jewelry and forgotten lore. She finds herself at the mercy of a dangerous assassin, haunted by an even darker past. She yearns for freedom, but he won’t let her go–not when her Cat’s Eye necklace is the only thing that can save his life.

But the necklace itself presents a problem. It is an ancient device from the long forgotten War of the Races, and its magic has the ability to steal souls. Can Sora learn to wield its power — or will the power wield her? (Winner of the SKOW 2006 Best Fantasy Award)

I don’t know if this is the place were you leave a blog comment for the giveaway but… I love Sora!! she’s my favorite charecter! I know what a surprise!!

    • Hi Francisca, I see your comment! And yes, it is somewhat of a surprise. Why Sora, do you think? Most people say “Crash” or “Dorian” (can’t blame them, they’re my favorites too, though I am becoming very attached to Lori and Ferran as their story grows.)

  2. I have to agree with Francesca. Watching Sora grow (in book 1) as she experiences more and more in life, and realizes that not all about the world around her is as she seems to see it, it becomes painfully obvious that she, while being the most naive of all the characters, has the best propensity to grow. It’s more so obvious b/c Dorian never really changes his behavior, always referring to her as sweetness, nor Burn, as a mercenary, and the way his actions are dictated by training and nature.

Crash, OTOH, is an anomaly, it seems. You hint at his origins, and you hint at his level of training, but then unexpectedly, he starts to change – as he himself acknowledges at the end of hte book. He may have some growing to do as well, but a lot of what he has seen already has already shaped him, whereas Sora is adapting much more quickly than anyone could possibly have imagined, less-than-noble birth or not.

Yes, yes, yes, she has the Cat’s Eye – but I still don’t discount her own native abilities nor her character.

Looking forward to book 2 soon.

(Oh, and I’m hoping to find out if tehre is a hidden meaning behnd the naming of ‘crash & burn’ or not).

    • Niraj that’s wonderful that you connected with Sora’s character. She is fun to write about–despite all of her adventures, I try to maintain that seed of innocence and goodwill that is at the center of her personality. She might not be noble born, but she is still noble-minded, perhaps more so than First and Second Tier. I hope to make her become wiser without becoming bitter. Hope you enjoy the next installment of the series!

I love how complicated Crash is. We know hints of his background and training, but at the same time, we know nothing of his background and training. I love how Nora is becoming independent. She’s not a damsel in distress, which I absolutely love! I like strong female characters who can take care of themselves (she was definitely holding her own in the second book). When Crash went after that guy in the second book (I don’t want to give away spoilers) gave me goosebumps. That scene has to be in my top 5 scenes in the series. I’m getting the third book as soon as possible. Great job! I can’t wait to read your other books as well.

    • Thank you Olivia! So glad you’re enjoying the series. Crash is definitely a hard nut to crack. He hides so much beneath the surface. Getting into his character is a lot like peeling an onion…many different traits, and not all positive. I had a lot of fun writing the books and hope you enjoy the next installment. ~TL

Alright, I first read Sora’ s Quest last year. I have since read all 3 that are published at least five times. In fact, I finished all three last week and when looking for something to read this week-I picked up Sora’ s Quest AGAIN! Love the characters, writing, the world. Keep up the amazing work and I can’t wait for Farran’ s Map!

    • Haha thanks Hannah! So wonderful that you enjoy the books so much. Can’t wait to continue the series with Ferran’s Map. Fingers crossed…I’m thinking it’s going to be the best so far. 😉

I’ve read all the books in The Cat’s Eye Chronicles. I was pleasantly surprised that they were so good considering that I had never read any of your books or even heard of you. Keep up the good work and keep the books coming. So since we are on the subject….. When is Ferran’s Map coming out?

  6. Rose

Please please please have Ferran’s map out as soon as possible I fell in love with your books and finished them all a year and half ago and can’t wait to find out what happens next.
